It was inaugurated the day of the Mercè, 21 September of 1957 with the name Estadi Futbol Club Barcelona (FCB). This is its official name until today, yet since the beginning it became popular as Camp Nou ("New Camp").

With a capacity of 90,000 for spectators, it opened with a great official ceremony that paralysed the city. The principal authorities of the regime attended the celebrations.

The first game played in its territory was a friendly game between FCB and the Warsaw selection (4-2), and the first goal of the history of the stadium was scored by the Barcelonan Eulogio Martínez.

In 1980, under the presidency of the Basque José Luís Nuñez, it was the first reform, with the motive of World Cup '82.

In 1994 they made a second alteration: the ground was lowered three metres and the standing seats were taken out. From this moment, all the spectators were placed in seating and the capacity of the stadium remained at 100,000 people.

The stadium also accommodates all the social structure of FCB, like its shops, museum and the school...

Inseparable of the history of FCB, the Camp Nou, even though, it was not the only territory of its game of the blue-red teams. The history of the club passes to all FCB stadiums.
