Barcelona's Greek community is very small, and yet there’s a place where one can taste their culinary delicacies. The majority of the clientele at Planet Greece are locals, and that was the intention of Akiles Litainas, from Salonica, when he opened in '95.
For twelve years this place has been adapting to the passing of time without losing its essence, and today it’s one of the busiest Greek restaurants in the city.
Greek cuisine is rich in its variety of styles and flavors. Salads, tomatoes, eggplant, vegetables, feta cheese, olive oil, wine, yogurt, etc… make Greek cuisine a prime example of the Mediterranean diet. And clearly that's what you'll find at this Eixample restaurant.
The décor evokes Greece's classical legacy and its immense artistic and architectural patrimony. It’s a small museum full of statues and statuettes, that also sells handicrafts and typical products, making this restaurant a trip to the land of Socrates and Plato, where you’ll only hear modern and traditional Greek music.
Every year they hold a photography contest open to all those who travel to Greece and bring back their best memories in images that are then exhibited.
The space is divided into two separate atmospheres: upon entering the décor is more elegant and austere, good for couples and groups of four. This area is non-smoking.
The interior hall, which has more of a traditional tavern style, is ideal for large groups. You can smoke in this area. On weekends Akiles invites diners to participate in the Greek dance party where they break the dishes they’ve used (yes, it’s true, it’s a tradition!).
Gastronomically speaking, for starters we recommend a Starter Platter: and for the main course, Mussaka, of course; and for dessert the thick Greek yogurt with nuts and honey. They also offer a taster’s menu that is ideal for those wanting to try a little of everything (25,50). The combined dishes (there’s three of them) are another good choice if you’re looking for a variety (14,50). There are about a dozen wines on offer and all of them come from the land of Olympic Gods.
At lunch-time they offer a mid-day menu including a starter, main course, drink, dessert or coffee.
BarceloCa users will be treated to a Tsipuro, an anis liquor that makes for the perfect digestive and is typical in the north of the country.
