Jaume Plensa, Catalan sculptor, drawer and engraver was born in Barcelona in 1955. He studied in La Llotja and the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes (Superior School of Fine Arts)of Sant Jordi. His work reflects the interest by issues related with volume, space and tension. In 1983/84 he started to mold iron with the technique of smelting and developed a sculptor concept of animal forms. In 1986 he went on to smelted iron, to later on start using glass, resin, lights and sounds. Since 1996 he also dedicated himself to create elements and stage design for opera and theatre montages, primarily in collaboration with La Fura dels Baus theatre company.
