LevántateAntonio González Batista, better known as "El Pescaílla", meaning a small or young hake fish, (he told everyone to call him Pesca
dilla, which is the correct way to pronounce it, as oppose the slang version which he is known for yet no one paid attention to him), was a flamenco and rumba singer and guitarist. He was born in the Gràcia district in 1926.
His first wife was Dolores Amaya, who had a daughter with, Toñi, in 1955. Yet, he abandoned them to get together with
Lola Flores, who he got married to on 27 October 1957, in El Escorial (Madrid). Married to "La Faraona" and father to
Antonio Flores,
Lolita Flores and
Rosario Flores, he was also considered the father of Catalan rumba, influenced by his style in the multitude of artists, particularly in Peret.
Despite the auguries, the relation between Lola and El Pescaílla stayed firm for 38 years, overcoming bad bumps like the one in 1989 where he was supposed process for fraud towards the public funds.
In May, 1995 his wife, Lola, died and his son Antonio in an interval of only two weeks, which supposed a hard blow that it never went so far as to overcome. He died in Madrid, 12 November 1999, because of a hepatic illness dragged from a long time. He was 73 years old.
