Shiva is the name of the popular God, but the origin of the bands name is quite less esoteric than one would suspect. On a trip through India, Stefanie bought a brand new microphone - the brand was called Shiva Sound System. It became the mic that she did her first shows with when Shiva Sound started to make waves.
Stefanie Ringes is the bohemian heart and soul of Shiva Sound. She founded her first band at 13 and she hasnt stopped stopped singing and creating music since. Born in The Netherlands and half frensh, she spent a part of her childhood in Indonesia (Yakarta) Argentina (Buenos Aires), Spain ( Madrid, Formentera, Barcelona). Coming to Madrid in the nineties, her band Lions in Love immediately got noticed and they recorded the albums Drogaza and Psicofonias.
In 1998, Stefanie decided she needed a change: Shiva Sound was born, a project all her own as a singer-songwriter and performer.
The main influence is Indian music. Stefanies goal is to communicate a specific kind of Oriental vibe that she feels runs through all music from that colourful country. However, the latin rhythms that are interspersed with the Indian sounds also refer to the dreams and idealized images of a Northern girl readily seduced by exotic countries, and rythmes.
In 2000, her debut album as a solo artist was released: Shiva Sound was already crackling with dynamics and atmosphere. Electronic sounds, funk, hip-hop, samba and bossa nova made for a heady cocktail of energetic feel-good music, produced and mixed by Chop Suey and Watch TV. On the live circuit, Stefanie and Shiva Sound were selling out clubs in major Spanish cities.
After a lot of live performances and a good deal of writing, five years later Meena Supreme saw the light of day, produced by Stefanie herself and Antonio Claret. The sound has evolved into an even more intriguing and sensual mix of electronics, Brasilian rhythms and melodies of zurdos, pandeiros and tamborín, and Indian-influenced elements. The seductive voice of Stefanie colours Shiva Sounds sweet and soothing music hypnotizes the listener - transporting him to a pleasant and relaxing space beyond the ordinary.
