Miguel Ángel Poveda León was born in Badalona on 13 February 1973 and is a flamenco singer. He started to sing at a young age but did not jump on to stardom until 1993, when he won four prizes in the Festival de Cante (Festival of Song) in Minas de La Unión.
Since his recognition, his career flourished. Only one year later,
Bigas Luna contracted him for the film 'La Teta y La Luna' (The Tit and the Moon) and in 1995 he recorded his first album, 'Viento del Este' (Wind of the East), accompanied by musicians such as Carles Benavent and José Soto.
The following year he participated in diverse festivals in Spain and the rest of Europe and achieved his first tour in Japan. As well, in 1997 he produced a show for a seminar in the University in Bologna of the Poets of the Generation of 27 and presented, in all of Europe and with plenty of success, the tour Suena Flamenco.
Although flamenco is his style of choice, Poveda is much more than the typical image of the flamenco singer and looks for other genres and diverse disciplines.
In 2003, he transferred to Seville, without forgetting Catalonia in his musical journey, as a demonstration later in Desglaç, a risky bet where he puts music in to a selection of Catalan poems and it was supposedly the first album with a flamenco singer´s voice in this language.
Three years later he presents himself in the Flamenco Biennale of Seville with his work, 'Tierra de calma' (Earth in Calm) in collaboration with Juan Carlos Romero and where his wins various awards.
