The Sant Josep Mercat (or La Boquería) is the market amongst the markets. An emblematic venue of the city and the reference place for colour, liveliness and bustle.

The beginning of its construction dates back to saint Joseph's day, on the 19th March of 1840. It was built where the former Sant Josep's Convent stood, under the direction of the architect Josep Mas i Vila, in an area where trade and commerce had always been carried out by peddlers from 1217 onwards.

The iron structure and the metal covering date from 1914 and were devised by Miquel de Bergue.

The market offers a variety of products from practically everywhere. There are over sixty different kinds of fruit and well over fifty kinds of fisheries, not to mention the more than eighty diverse produce, such as delicatessen, dried fruit, dietary, chocolates, etc...
