The Montjuïc Park, with nearly 260 hectares, is the biggest green area in the city with the category of forestry park and a vegetation practically Mediterranean.
The area, where different equipment has been incorporated, has been modified numerous times, since it has served as a stage for various events of the city. First, the celebration of the International Exposition of 1929, meant landscaping the park and the installation of the magic fountain, of the
Pabellón de Alemania (The German Pavilion), the
Mies Van der Rohe, the
Poble Espanyol (Spanish Village) or the
Teatre Grec (Greek Theatre), amongst others. Later on, with the Olympic Games of 1992, important installation were constructed in this area, like the Olympic Stadium or the
Palau Sant Jordi (Sant Jordi Palace or ´St. George Palace), as well as the the
Torre Calatrava (Calatrava Tower).
Other attractions of the park are the air cable cars from where one can reach Montjuïc from the
La Barceloneta suburb in a journey that offers spectacular views of the city or the railway
Teleférico de Montjuïc that leaves you close to the castle.
In the park you may find also the Botanic Gardens, el Fossar de
la Pedrera, the
Fundació Miró or the Castell de Montjuïc (Castle), the oldest and that currently houses the Museo Militar.
