The Sants district, framed in the Sants-Montjuïc district, is an area neighbouring the city, adjoining the Eixample, Les Corts y L'Hospitalet de Llobregat.
From
Plaza Catalunya it takes 10 minutes by metro. The train station is Barcelona Sants, the biggest in the city, is the mark of the district, with connections to the airport, outskirts and buses.
Its historic origins have to do with the commencement of the industry, bringing together an important textile industry, with some of the biggest factories of the sector in Spain, like the España Industrial or the Vapor Vell.
The district is a quiet residential area and easy to discover. The wide streets make the suburb ideal for the elderly and those who enjoy the light of the sun.
The main axes are the Carrer de Sants that unites Plaza de Espanya to Hospitalet de Llobregat, and is the one of the most commercial streets of Barcelona.
Around the Sants station various hotels are situated that is normally occupied by business people, because its proximity to the Fira de Barcelona as well as its finance district neighbour, Les Corts.
From Sants one can walk to Plaza de Espanya, to the Poble Espanyol, to the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc or to the Fira de Barcelona (Fair of Barcelona).
The Major Festival of the district is celebrated on 24 of August (Saint Bartholomew). The traffic is stopped in various streets decorated by the locals with an allegoric reason, where popular activities are organised: butifarradas (Catalan cured meats), concerts, Sardanas (traditional Catalan folk dance), habaneras (Cuban music)… At the same time celebrating with great public exist, the Fiesta Alternativa (Alternative Festival).
