The Periódico de Catalunya (´Catalonia Newspaper´) was founded in 1978 by the Barcelonan
Antonio Asensio Pizarro and is the property of
Grupo Zeta.
Since it´s commencement it was direct by Antonio Franco and was formed by journalists like Julián Lago, Fernando Jáuregui, Ramon Miravitllas and José Luis Orosa.
It also counts with features writers of different ideological spectrums: Emilio Romero, Manuel Martín Ferrand, Amando de Miguel,
Montserrat Roig, or
Manuel Vázquez Montalbán.
The Periódico de Catalunya occupies a media space of Catalan left wing ideology, and has the advantage of being the only newspaper edited integrally in Castilian as well as Catalan.
Since its commencement it covers information about the city of Barcelona and sports, an area that did not have a lot of space in the rest of the general articles.
Currently it is directed by Rafael Nadal.
