La Vanguardia (The Vanguard) is a century old journal, called La Vanguardia Española, since its foundation in 1881 until 1978. It belongs to Grupo Godó and the current director is José Antich.

Its distribution is in the mornings, and it is written in Barcelona for all of Spain. It is edited in Castilian, although some sections and supplements are in Catalan.

Ideologically it is considered a conservative newspaper and its origins are monarch. It is especially, an information newspaper and it was never particularly radical, not under the dictatorship nor during the different governments and democrats.

The last page of La Vanguardia (La contra), is one of its most popular sections: interviews with famous and anonymous personalities, a lot of the times interesting. This section is run by Ima Sanchis, Víctor Amela and Lluís Amiguet.
