Founded by Francisco Peris Mencheta in 1888,the same year as the first Universal Exposition of Barcelona, was the first Spanish evening newspaper.
Up to the Second Republic, it was an open journal of information and away from political tendencies.
During the International Exposition of 1929 it published supplements in colour.
Its editorial office was found on the street of Roger de Llúria 35, in a building that was reformed in 1963 by the architect
Josep Maria Sostres, who received the award FAD in 1965.
The Noticiero Universal (Universal Newspaper) was last published in 1985. In its place we find today the bar and restaurant, Noti Universal.
