Thirty years of abstract Chinese artIn the 1970s and early 80s, the Chinese authorities considered abstraction as a product of bourgeois society. Nevertheless, in the last thirty years, Chinese artists have discovered an alternative kind of abstraction or modernity with Chinese roots.
The result of their efforts, which have often remained out of the limelight, can be seen at the
CaixaForum exhibition Displaced Modernity: Thirty Years of Abstract Chinese Art , which includes some 80 items, among them paintings, sculptures and installations, produced by over 40 artists: Zhao Wenliang, Zhu Jinshi, Wang Luyan, Gu Wenda, Yu Youhan, Ren Jian, Zhang Jianjun, Yang Zhilin, Huang Yali, Shang Yang, Li Huasheng, Zhang Yu, Wang Tiande, Liang Quan, Zhou Yangming, Ding Yi, Meng Luding, Zhu Xiaohe, Lei Hong, Tan Ping ... amongst others.
