Although some people still want to see it as the parallel project that Stephen Malkmus (Pavement) came up with, the truth is that Silver Jews has always been the expressive emotional vehicle of David Berman. The Virginian, half songwriter and half just writer, took over the project in the mid nineties and, from then on, he has done nothing else than to nibble from Nord American indie, faithful to the shabby lo-fi spirit seduced by the Nashville country. After releasing 'Bright Flight', his fourth album, Berman plunged into a well of drugs, violence and suicide attempts from which he managed to escape thanks to the slightly sunny optimistic 'Tanglewood Numbers'. In May, coinciding with his visit to Barcelona, he will publish his sixth work for Drag City: 'Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea'. How to Rent a Room
