Yesterday and today's jazz in the hands of a string group Although all the members of this string quintet (plus drums) come from the classical tradition, the keyword in Basquiat Strings is undoubtedly "jazz". Whether performing their own pieces, with the hallmark of the project's founder Ben Davis, or those by twentieth century jazz icons like Wayne Shorter and Ornette Coleman, the group has earned the respect of audiences and the specialised press in their exquisite shows, and on their eponymous debut which brought them a Mercury Prize nomination. A pure delight.
