The Japanese Keigo Oyamada has gone by the name of Cornelius since 1993. Before that he was part of Flipper’s Guitar, but it has been under his pseudonym taken from “Planet of the Apes” that he has produced the bulk of his best work as a musician. He has made four albums, bridging two millennia, from “First Question Award” (1994) to the very hands-on “Sensuous” (2007). A true electronic alchemist, Cornelius’s back catalogue provides clear evidence of his skills in musical DIY, his wild imagination and his obsession for vintage hi-fi recordings. His impressively diverse array of remixes (From UNKLE to K.D. Lang, James Brown to Blur, and Sting to The Pastels) have drawn on the sound of Shibuya to produce a down-tempo urban feel, halfway between geometry obsessed jazz-pop and quirky micro-house.
