Summercase 2008

A generous pinch of indie, a touch of techno and a good chunk of math rock, these are the basic ingredients we think of when talking about the aesthetic Foals. But this band from Oxford turn all that into mouth-watering music by adding some clean yet powerful guitars, ripe rock rhythms, meaty drums and, most importantly of all, a large dollop of fun. And they do all this with the energy of a thoroughbred racehorse (maybe that's why they are called Foals?). Known for their predilection for playing at people's house parties, these Brits have been feeding us morsels of a musical feast which is getting better by the day. Their singles 'Hummer' and 'Cassius' are two exceptional calling cards from their debut album 'Antidotes' (2008), and their incredible versatility was there for all to see last August at the Carling Weekend festival, when, to the surprise of more than one onlooker, they ran through an episode of the British TV series 'Skins' which they had been in. Without a doubt, a definite must for 2008. Cassius
