Adele Bethel and David Gow were concert musicians on tour with Arab Strap when they decided to form their own band with Ailidh Lennon and Scott Paterson. These four Glaswegians made their debut with 'Love The Cup' (2003), which was remixed a year later by the exquisite Domino label, who were won over by the band's savage charm. On their next album, 'The Repulsion Box' (2006), Sons & Daughters delved deeper into their indomitable souls and produced a work of rockabilly-nurtured blues-punk with nods to their Celtic roots and peppered with sets of girl/boy vocals from Adele and Scott. Highly rated by people like Nick Cave and Franz Ferdinand, and widely reckoned to be one of the most individual groups of the past few years, they have decided to take a change of direction for their third album and share their devotion to bands like The Smiths and Blondie. To do this, they have recruited the great Bernard Buttler (Suede), and the result, 'This Gift' (2008), is their best work to date. By strengthening the role of Adele as the frontwoman and giving the whole album a quick vigorous pulse, Sons & Daughters have definitely got our devotion. Gilt Complex
