The Palau Savassona (Savassona Palace) was constructed in 1796 by Francesc Ferrer de Llupià connecting and following the traditional seigniorial house over the model of the gothic palace but with neo-classical dimensions and ordinations. Large transformations in its volume and they were made in its organisation respecting the original palace.

Headquarters to Ateneu Barcelonès (Barcelonan Association) since 1906, through a process of lawsuits in the entity, the economic operation and legal process necessary for the purchasing of the building, involving a hard test for the financial capacity of the institution and have opened a new phase at the Ateneu.

The people in charge of the reform of the building of the Canuda street were Josep Font i Gumà and the student Josep Maria Jujol.

Made to undertake a social life, activities and services. Since then the Savassona Palace is the physical image of reference of the institution.

The building is declared a national historic monument according the Real Decreto (Royal Decree) 476/1981 of 5 February of 1981 and is included in the Catálogo de Patrimonio (Catalogue of Patrimony) of the Ayuntamiento de Barcelona (Autonomous Government of Catalonia) in category A.
