Albert Ràfols Casamada was born in Barcelona in 1923. Son of the also painter Albert Ràfols, he started to draw being quite young. Since abandoning his architecture degree in 1948, he became a student of the Tárrega Academy, where he met the painter María Girona, that later would become his wife. Previously, he formed part of the group Els Vuit, where he exposed for the first time in Barcelona in 1946.
