The Rambla Catalunya is one of the most centric and emblematic streets of the city. It passes, in parallel with the
Paseo de Gràcia, from
Plaça Catalunya up to the Diagonal and its central bordered walk of trees turns it into a charming place to walk.
It still preserves the stately air of its past when this street was lodging the residences of the wealthiest families of the city, of which numerous examples still survive. At present, and especially in summer, the multiple of outdoor seating of the restaurants and the snack bars liven up, at the time that the passers-by go in and out of the numerous shops, each time becoming more and more exclusive.
Just to the beginning and at the end of the walk, we find two sculptures of
Josep Granyer - Coqueta y Meditación (Flirt and Meditation) - that represent a giraffe and a bull in a more human attitude than animal, and were placed in 1972.
Standouts are some modernist buildings, as the Heribert Pons house, work of Alexandre Soler; the Fargas house, of Enric Sagnier, and the
Casa Serra, of
Josep Puig i Cadafalch and current head office of the
Diputación de Barcelona (Delegation of Barcelona).
The Rambla Catalunya is one of the most particularly emblematic streets in
Diada de Sant Jordi, when – likewise as the
Paseo de Gràcia or
Las Ramblas – where time after time, books and roses stalls occur.
