The Roman Wall of Barcelona was constructed in the IVth Century and converted Barcino in one the most impressive fortified enclosures of the Roman occidental. It defended the city for more than 600 years and it is possible that was the reason that Barcelona was made the capital of Catalonia.

Its perimeter is of 1,350 metres and its 74 towers (the majority of these are rectangular) served Barcelona the name of the crowned city. These towers, that were two levels higher than the wall, disposed of windows in the superior part where the Roman war machines were used.

It counted with 4 doors, in the extremes of i>cardo and the decumanus, that crossed over to what today is the Plaza Sant Jaume. Currently some parts are conserved in Regomir street, very close to the Cathedral.

Unfortunately, to observe the total of the old wall today, a dozen of buildings would have to be knocked down. Still, from Via Laietana, specifically behind the Correos building (post office), one can observe a good stretch, as well as the entrance of the aqueduct of the city. As well, little by little they are liberating parts that were left enclosed between medieval dwellings.
