Paseo Colón
Gòtic
The passage starts in the famous of the Colombus Lookout right at the end of
Las Ramblas
. For those that wish to walk to Barceloneta, this is the best option. The sea views and the tranquility that one breathes in this part of the port of Barcelona is to be enjoyed at any time of the year, as well, you can also reach the commercial centre Maremagnum, the Aquarium and the 3D Imax cinema.
In the past, this part of Barcelona did not exist. Previously the Passeig de Colóm was the limit of the count city towards the sea. The separation between sea and water was marked by an old wall that safeguarded Barcelona from exterior dangers. Little by little, the earth was winning territory to the sea and finally it collapsed to give way to the passage in which we can now walk through, ride a bike or simply sit on one of the benches facing the sea.
Palm trees cover the whole way until reaching the Central Post Office, the building that marks the end of the passage and that started construction in 1978, through the demolishment of the wall. Very close to this building and on the other side of the street we find the sculpture of Mariscal that was constructed for the Olympic Games of Barcelona of 1992.
