David John Mackay was born in Eastbourne, UK in 1933.

In 1951 he commenced his studies in the Northern Polytechnic of London, where he obtained an Honour Diploma in 1958.

One year later he transferred, as member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) to Barcelona, when in 1962, funded, together with Josep Martorell and Oriol Bohigas, the studio MBM Arquitectes.

As an integral part of this study, he participated in designing more than 40 works, not only in Spain but also overseas. In Barcelona, of the more notable are, the Manzana Escorial, the Casa Cahner, the Casa Espar, the Escola Thau, La Maquinista and the Parc de la Creueta del Coll, amongst others.

He was awarded in different occasions, between the most important, the RIBA Essay Prize (1949), the Prize Andrew N (1960) y el Prize Puig i Cadafalch (1968).
