Situated in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, the Mercat de Galvany (Galvany Market) constructed between 1868 and 1927, owes its name to the Josep Castelló i Galvany, who gave way to the properties where the building was constructed.

It is one of the century old markets of the city, constructed at the end of XIX Century, in an era with a particular architecture style. This defined its structure, of iron. But, the Galvany Market is especially odd with other architectural and decorative characteristics that has converted it into an artistic monument.

The Market level has a Greek cross form and a great central octagonal dome. 28 columns of iron support a covering with a structure also with iron and a layer of wooden panels. Also, it possesses four façades with the Modernist style and one of great beauty with stained glass colours and mosaics that represent the old shield of the city.

Long ago, on the land that today occupies the building, there already existed a free open air market that accommodated rural workers and fishermen. Since its inauguration it has suffered two important renovations, in 1964 and 1990.
