The Mercat de Lesseps (Lesseps Market), one of the most modern markets in the city, started construction when Josep Maria de Porcioles was still mayor of Barcelona, but was inaugurated in 1974.

With its three levels and more than 3,500 square metres of total surface, this market was situated in an area in the Gràcia district which, for those times, was already consolidated urbanely. For this reason and differentiating from the majority of the markets of the city that are located in isolated buildings, the Lesseps Market is adjacent to another building.

Although of its construction there have been diverse remodeling, in 1999, a global reform was made that modernised its infrastructures and incorporated a supermarket.
