El Mercat de l'Estrella (The Star Market), situated in the Gràcia district, was inaugurated in 1957 and, thus, its construction formed part of the boom of the municipal markets that took place between the ´50´s and ´70´s, under the mayoralty of Josep Maria Porcioles.
Although the majority of these new markets were constructed in the suburbs in the outskirts of the city, still lacking public equipment, the Estrella Market was constructed in one of the most traditional suburbs of Barcelona which, in those times, was already considered urbanely established.
At any rate, its architecture coincides totally with its fellow markets of the epoch, with a structure and a cement coating.
Since its inauguration, the market, with its nearly 2,200 square metres of total surface, has experiences various structural renovations (1989, 1993 y 1996).
