The Mercat del Guinardó (Guinardó Market) is one of the markets of consignment that was constructed in the ´50´s in Barcelona and, precisely, was inaugurated in 1954. Following the tendency of that epoch, its structure is of cement and its total surface is nearing 3,000 square metres.
In the same way as many of the cases of the city, the building was constructed to accommodate the merchants who, from a long time ago, installed their stalls in the open air at the same location of the current market.
It is foreseen that in 2008 their doors will open as a provisional market and will receive merchants and clients, while they construct a new market for the district.
As such, the current building will be demolished and, in its place, a medical centre will be made, an area for youngsters and another for the elderly, a child care and two green zones. The new Guinardó Market is situated in the Llívia passage area, that will be urbanised and converted in the commercial area by excellence of the district.
