El Mercat de la Mercè (Mercè Market), situated in the Nou Barris district, was constructed in 1961 and was remodelled in 1968.
It forms part of the markets that were constructed in a very prolific way, in a period that commenced in the ´50´s and finalised in the mid ´70´s, during the order of the mayor Josep Maria de Porcioles, to confront the vertiginous growth of the suburbs in the outskirts of the city.
In this way, its architectural characteristics are close to the basis of the markets constructed in this epoch, with a regular floor and a cement structure.
The market, with nearly 3,400 square metres of total surface, has experienced diverse reforms since its inauguration, the last one in 2004.
