Opened in September 1882, and ten years of construction, the work of Antoni Rovira i Trias, was built on top of the remains of the XVII Century wall, and is one of the most significant examples of iron architecture in Barcelona.

It corresponds to the idea of constructing a market at the door of Sant Antoni, when it was outlined in the Cerdà Plan.

It composes of three spaces: in the interior, for fresh produce; in the exterior, the Encantes (charmed) objects, non edible, four days a week; and on Sundays it´s dedicated to old books, the well known Dominical del Llibre (Book Sunday).

It has a total surface of 12,100 m².
