Ieoh Ming Pei was born on 26 of April of 1917 in Guangzhou, China and finished his scholar studies at 18 years of age and he moved to the United Stated to study Architecture.

He enrolled in the famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and concluded his degree in 1940. Between 1945 and 1948 he taught at Harvard as an assistant, of two famous European architects, Marcel Breuer and Walter Gropius.

In 1955, he inherited the knowledge of the European architects who he was linked to, adopted the American nationality and the next year founded his office, IM Pei and Partners.

Pei seeks pure lines, pragmatic, with the accordance of the ´international style´ and the criteria of Gropius. He uses frequently abstract forms, cold materials, like steel, cement and glass, and incorporates effects that create an impact to the observer.

He is one of the most known contemporary architects and has created works in different corners of the globe. In 1983 he was awarded with the Pritzker award, maximising international recognition in architecture. He has also received the Gold Medal of the American Institute of Architects, amongst those a lot of other distinctions.

In Barcelona, he was in charge of the construction of the World Trade Center (1995).
