Antoni Rovira i Trias was born in Vila de Gràcia in 1816, son of a family established in Barcelona in the XVIIIth century, of artistic tradition.
He was an architect and he published articles in where they manifested in favour of the disappearance of the walls and the radial growth of Barcelona, an idea that materialised with the contest of 1859 from the development plan of Eixample, in where Idelfons Cerdà competed and won.
Between the most standout works from his career, we find the Barceloneta Market (1873), Conception Market (1885), Born Market (1876) and Sant Antoni Market (1879).
He was also author of the Passatge del Comerç (1865-66), the Teatre Circ Barcelonès (1853) projects and the reform of
Palau Moja (1856). He died in Barcelona, in 1889.
