The Jardins del Palau Robert (Palau Robert Gardens), situated in the most centric corners of the
Paseo de Gràcia with Diagonal, consists of a refuge of tranquility, where one can take in some fresh air between the trees and plants, in the middle of one of the most commercial areas with the most activity in the city.
In its interior, there are various diverse species of palm trees, which stem from the Universal Exposition of 1888.
Designed by Ramon Oliva in the beginning of XX Century, surround the
Palau Robert, that initially was the residence of Robert Robert i Surís, Marquess of Robert. It is a Neo-classic style building designed by the French architect Henry Grandpierre and constructed under the direction of Joan Martorell i Montells between 1898 and 1903.
In 1981 the Generalitat of Catalunya (Autonomous Government of Catalonia) acquired the building as well as the added gardens and, currently, the palace is received by the Dirección General de Turismo (General Direction of Tourism).
