Richard Georg Strauss was born in Munich, Baviera, on 11 June 1864

He began to study music at the age of four, influenced by his father, the trumpeter of the court of Munich, Franz Strauss.

At the age of 21 he made the debut as conductor. Along his life he directed the principal bands of opera of Germany and Austria.

During the Second World War, Strauss remained in the country.

He died in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in Baviera, on 8 September 1949.
