Grec Festival celebrates the centenary of the Palau de la Música by dramatising one of the most influential poems in the history of art: Torquato Tasso's Jerusalem Delivered. Hildebrant and Delacroix dedicated paintings to it. Monteverdi, Handel, Rossini, Brahms and Dvorak put it to music. Now, Carme Portaceli, Paco Azorín and Marta Carrasco take a series of images from the poem and propel the piece into the 21st century. This new show revolves around the female characters in the story: the beautiful witch Armida; Sofronia, who sacrifi ces all for love; the wretched Princess Erminia; and Clorinda, the Persian warrior who comes to divine grace through battle. Brilliantly directed by Portaceli, with music by Gabriel Garrido’s acclaimed Ensemble Elyma, this is a production as spectacular as it is unusual.
Show in italian with Catalan subtitles.
