For the first time, an exhaustive vision joint with Chinese contemporary abstract art that until now has originated in the half-light can be seen outside of China. The demonstration will bring eight works in different supports – painting, sculpture and installation – created by more than 40 artists of different eras during the last three decades.
The objective of the demonstrations leaves perseverance of how the Chinese artists have responded to the social and cultural change, passing to a type of ‘abstract art’ or ‘modernity’ of alternative and Chinese roots, which combines the traditional philosophy and the aesthetics of this country, the Zen Buddhism, the western modernity and the conceptual contemporary art.
For this reason, the sample focuses splitting the following topics: the definition and the interpretation of Chinese ‘abstract art’ cannot be based on the dichotomy between objectivity and subjectivity, between work of art and artist, between form and meaning, yet Chinese ‘abstract art’ is the expression of an opening concrete state and a metaphor of the lived reality. At the end of the decade of 1970 and beginning of 1980, the authorities were considering the abstract form as a Bourgeois production. On the other hand, Chinese abstract art played a political role during that time. In the second half of the 1980 decade, thanks to the influence of modernity and the Occidental post-modernity, many avant-garde artists of the ’85 Movement promised to create a type of oriental metaphysical art, combing the cultural traditional symbols and Occidental surrealism. Since 1990, this Chinese abstract art has reflected profoundly the reality o f globalisation and urbanisation; it has not been limited to produce abstract compositions simply metaphysics, but has meant an activity of meditation inspired in Zen, a continuous flowing diary of ‘action art’ that has implied the urban reality. The ‘modern’ aspect of these works of is only a mask; the ‘abstract’ phenomenon in the Chinese contemporary art is a movement to the modernity, in a context that oozes contemporaneous in the natural esthetic and the social form are indivisible and interchangeable.
