Brazilian sound and style. Brazuca Matraca appeared a couple of years ago as the title for the LP of his creator Wagner Pá. Everything proceeded alright and thus was born one of the most powerful groups of present day in Barcelona. This band born two years ago, is now with one foot in Spain and the other in Europe. With strength and without prejudice, they mix music with other sounds, creating something innovative inasmuch results mixing Portuguese and Spanish without too many rules. There is, of course, one or another theme in English but always with the sensual dressing of Latin music.
For a full appreciation of what these four guys create one should listen to their album and themes like "Del Color Del Mundo", "Circo Mistico", "Caminhão" or "Cold".
Their themes feature traditional Brazilian elements, the playful rhythm of Bossa Nova and the ironical sense at humour of reggae and Caribe.
Brazuca Matraca is led by Wagner Pá, the DJ who despite excelling with records, decided to go farther afield by developing his own musical project with the formation of his own group in '00. In charge of the band vocals, Wagner has worked with prestigious musicians as Fermín Muguruza, el Mono Loco(Macaco)-(Crazy Monkey),
Manu Chao among others. Together with the above mentioned and
Ojos de Brujo, Amparanoia, Color Humano they reflect what there is best in the New Fusion wave, also called "mestiza" (fusion) or still "onda zapatista" (zapatist wave).
While still preparing their second LP they are on tour all Summer of '02. They have already been to France, Iran, Turkey, Germany and will finish in September all over Spain.
The last time they performed in Barcelona was last September during the Festival of La Mercé '01. On the very day and the same time that
Manu Chao was performing at
Plaza Catalunya. Despite that the nº 2 stage de
Estación de Francia was full of fans of their home band.
Even though there is as yet no fixed date for their return we keep looking forward to watching them, "Certo, caras"? [Brazilian Portuguese "Right, guys?"].
