How was the Art Fair
Artexpo 2002
The 8th edition of the Art Fair of Barcelona took place, the weekend of 22nd to 26th May, at the palace #1 of the Fair Grounds in our city. This edition of Artexpo marked the presence of 73 (Spanish and foreign)Art Galleries and featured an interesting programme of complementary activities with a special focus on the vanguardist risky options of present day Art.
The Show was divided into four areas: Border Spaces, Foundations area, Emergent art and Engraving Studio. As a novelty it was introduced a central theme which will inspire the contents of the activities all around it. "Espacios Fronterizos"("Border Spaces") was the one chosen and clearly attracted all attentions in the photo exhibition, organised by Art Barcelona with works by 42 artists among whom, Pere Formiguera, José Ramón Bas, Pilar Beltrán, Jürgen Klauke, Mayte or Andrés Serrano. The Foundations Space was dedicated to the distinguished newly created Foundations. It served as a showcase for the exhibition of part of the funds of each institution and as an explanation of the aims of each one. In this area were represented the Foundations: Cuixart, Foto Colectania, Apel·les Fenosa, private Guillem Viladot and Josep Niebla. Emergent Art was promoted on this edition by the Secretaria General de la Joventut (Catalan Autonomous Youth Department) with the main purpose of supporting, enforcing and pointing out the art by young creators, whose works have not entered the Gallery and Museum circuits. This space counted with the presence of 11 artists (Martí Abril, Montse Carreño, Curro Claret, Joan Cobos, David Curto, Noemi Elias, Pedro Oliver, Jordí Parramon, Tanit Plana, Txema Salvans and David Torrents, besides resident artists in the Hangar Colective). The Engraving Studio was one of the most visited and liveliest areas of the fair, with the public enthusiasm to watch directly how engraving is done.
