Commissioned from the architect Antoni Gaudí by the art patron Eusebi Güell, Park Güell was built between 1900 and 1914. It is indisputably one of the architect's most universal works and a paragon of Catalan Modernism.

Originally conceived of as an aristocratic housing development to be dotted with single-family homes, the project failed and the park became municipal property. It has been open to the public since 1923.

Thanks to the panoramic views it affords of Barcelona and the architectural interest of the still unfinished work, it is a key stop for visitors to the city.

Of special note are the main entrance, the Gran Plaça, the Sala Hipòstila, the Gaudí Home Museum, the mosaic-incrusted benches, the winding paths and the viaducts.
