At the end of the seventies, La Fura dels Baus were putting on theatrical street shows. But it was not until 22 October 1983, on having released their montage Accions, in Sitges, when they started standing out in the theatrical Catalan panorama, turning into the phenomenon of the moment. With Accions it remained demonstrated that
La Fura dels Baus was not and is not a theatrical company to use. In this show they mixed diverse scenic resources, like the music, the movement, the use of natural and industrial materials, the application of the new technologies and the direct implication of the spectator in the assembly.
This method of work has contributed to the creation of a proper term, the
"lenguaje furero", that turned out to be developed and extended in their following assemblies: Suz/O/Suz (released in Madrid on 30 August 1985), Tier Mon (released in Barcelona on 10 June 1988), Noun (released on 15 October 1990 in Nantes), MTM (released in Lisbon on 10 March 1994) and Manes (released in El Ejido land on 14 June 1996). Since then until the XXX (their latest show released in the Grec Festival 2002 of Barcelona), almost a million spectators from the whole world have been participants of his particular
furero language.
During the nineties, the company extended their radio of action to the theater of text, digital theater, opera or the achievement of big events. La Fura was the manager of creating the opening ceremony of the Olympics of 1992 in Barcelona, where the company have their base.
Their artistic creations also have impregnated the world of the publicity, where well-known brands like Pepsi, Mercedes-Benz, Swatch or Peugeot have entrusted them actions of promotion of their products. Related also to their philosophy participative, La Fura developed a project across Internet, B.O.M., a proposal of planetary festival of the end of the millennium. The climax of this project was lived in Plaça de Catalunya of Barcelona, where they congregated more than 20,000 people to farewell the XXth century along with their Home del Mil•leni.
Nevertheless, from 1998, they initiated a new line of creation: what they themselves call "shows with text and a la Italian". Along the same lines,
La Fura dels Baus represented Ombra, a show on Federico García Lorca and F@usto version 3.0, of which Fmol proposed the collective creation on behalf of his music. The latest technologies kept on influencing their creations, since it happens with Work in Progress 97, where scenes were connected that occurred simultaneously in diverse cities inside an ambience of digital theater.
La Fura dels Baus has also penetrated into the world of the opera with Atlántida, of
Manuel de Falla; El martirio de San Sebastián, of Claude Debussy, and La condenación de Fausto, of Héctor Berlioz. The Fura also has done their incursion in the cinema directing the film Fausto 5.0 (2001), that counts with actors of the height of Miguel Ángel Solá, Eduard Fernández or also the singer Najwa Nimri.
