The artist Zélou relapses this year whithin the programming of the BAC! 2004 at the Freud, the gallery that revealed him to the public from Barcelona a year ago. The work of this French young artist, of which the portrait takes up a central place, is a world where the representation of a melancholy handed over follows the expression of an ineffable force.

The skin as an ultimate form of identification, an immense area exposed where we can recreate ourselves and the identity of what has been observed can be shown to the one who observes us. Especially the portraits, the face not only as mirror of an interior world, but as a coverture that wraps and at the same time defines, the face is the essential motif of his work, and in this collection that we present appears in its extreme simplicity, no attributes, the strokes define and determine the essence of that face, of that skin through which his mutants stand out.

The work we present looks for expressing it all in its strokes, to apprehend the essence of the being through the representation, in the path of the oil on the canvas, through that surface texture, portraits done from the identification of the person portrayed with that surface of the canvas, like the ultimate skin.

The title of the exhibition, “Piel-Mêle” refers to that metaphor, the texture on the canvas = the skin being represented, besides it is a word game in French (pêle-mêle means mixture and confusion)

Imposing figures and disturbing characters with gloomy looks populate the universe of this self-taught artist. His "disfigured figuration" born from forms, violent and bright colors, transmits all the force and intensity of his artistic vision to us.

The presented works are carried out in oil on canvas and the measures are 130 x 160 centimeters.
