The Peruvian Indians have the habit of having a drink among friends. "Upiay" (drink) and "Waisi" (home), translates the importance of this social usage to the Andean culture. With this Quechua expression, almost impossible to pronounce, Rubí Baldeón, an exotic Peruvian expert on Cocktails and Tomaso de Luca, brought to the quarter of La Ribera the philosophy of her homeland "let’s go home and have a drink".

The aim is to offer a Latin place, with quality that escapes the usual brand of "immigrants bar". Upiaywaisy is a merry and tropical place, where people from all over the city and tourists gather to appreciate a varied list of cocktails.

Impeccably decorated in a colonial style where ancient reconditioned furniture is outstanding, with old lamps, huge chandeliers, big rustic mirrors and small objects from the Els Encants Marketplace.

Music plays an important part towards the atmosphere imposition of the bar. One listens essentially Latin music, Brazilian beats and salsa and it is not seldom people can be seen dancing, Fridays and Saturdays when the place is filled to capacity. During the week it is a colourful and happy venue, ideal to visit with a date or friends.

In winter, the visitors are about 50/50 foreign and locals. In summer there is a clear predominance of tourists. The age range is between 25 and 35, even though, owing to the characteristics, there is obviously no age limits.

From the wide selection of cocktails, we advise the Pisco Sour, Lady Sour Moonwalker and the San Francisco, all stars of the house. Available also non-alcoholic cocktails, Caribbean Mojitos and Brazilian Caipirinhas. To go along such sweetness, you can order small portions of lasagne, nachos and Spanish potatoes tortilla.

Readers of BarceloCa can have for free a shot drink after having any of the cocktails.
