Helen Turnbull was born in Hampshire, England in 1972, she graduates in occupational therapy and got her specialization in mental health in 1992. She starts to show interest in Photography in 1998, after a series of journeys around New Zealand, the States and England, she decides to fix her residence in Spain and to dedicate herself as a freelance to Photography. In 2003 she arrives to Barcelona. Her work up to this exhibition has been focused on portrait of children and babies. At this moment she is working on her new project “Sarriá”, a series of photographs of the people, the places and the daily life of that neighborhood in Barcelona.
The work that we exhibit at the Freud is a selection of photographs that have not been touched up digitally, but through techniques of multiple exposure and other photography techniques. We find a real world that once goes through Helen’s lenses is converted in what we see, a very personal vision of that reality through the eyes of this artist. Her photographs can be evocative and oneiric, but in fact pass through the unreal to go further on, it is about the plastic abstraction as a representation of what the artist sees, and we see with her.
The presented works are carried out in photographic emulsion on paper and have varied measures. Also there will be projections of slides on cloths.
