Kenneth McCarthy, one of the owners of this new Irish pub, not only lent his name to it, but also wanted to evoke the book «MacCarthy's bar» by the Irish writer Pete McCarthy, a «must» of the contemporary literature of that country, which describes the author's travels through inner Ireland, fundamentally using the bars of the «Emerald Isle» as stepping stpnes.

At the «McCarthhy's» of Via Laietana, there's more than Irish culture. It is actually, a pub of a cosmopolitan city, where you'll meet people from everywhere.

From midday, it is a cafeteria, a place visited by the local clientèle, neighbours and working people of the area, either having a coffee, or tasting any of the many foreign beers available (English, American and Mexican).

In the afternoons, evenings and later on, more tourists show up, especially British and Irish, who here have a space where it won't be difficult to make new acquaintances, without having to go over to the La Rambla area.

The main football matches can be viewed here, as well as, rugby and F1, an indispensable feature of the pub culture.

International snacks, in the Greek, Irish and Mediterranean styles are served in summer. There is also Gazpacho, Irish coffee, and «frape», a coffee, ice and milk shake.

From Mondays to Fridays, there is a cocktail happy hour (4,00). We recommend the «Swimming Pool» (vodka, coconut milk, orange and Blue Curaçao) or the Piña Colada, served according to your taste. Without alcohol, you have the San Francisco and the Caipirinha.
