The lower floors of the building, that once was the residence of the president of the Deputy, Darius Rumeu i Torrents (better known by his title of Baron de Viver), is now a recent restaurant, that evokes the Cultural and artistic legacy left by the liberal politician who once lived here, in the El Call quarter.
Nexes meaning nexus; connection, union between gastronomy, music, art and people. Under this purpose this restaurant of The Gothic appeared in June ´05.
As you enter, the first thing you see is a painting which alludes Romeo, not only as a homage to Baron Rumeu who once lived here, but also because all what the Shakespeare character represents in what concerns the romantic and magic, something which is peculiar to this venue.
In the basement, there is a hidden room, that once served as shelter against bombings and which with its stone arches confers an enigmatic and mysterious charm to the place. It serves as an ideal site for group dinners and is recommended to book in advance.
The musical background is mostly romantic, with classical themes and world music that appeals to a predominantly city clientele. At midday, it´s filled with people who work in the area and in the evening, for couples and groups that seek to be up to date.
The gastronomic proposition is based on the Mediterranean and market cuisine. With creative touches that encompass other sources, such as the oriental.
For food, the most recommended as entrées, are the Carpaccio of Shitake with shavings of Iberian ham and the sautéed noodles with Cep mushrooms, crayfish and soy. As main dishes: gratinated cod with orange mayonnaise; or the Magret duck with Teriyaki sauce and for dessert, the choc-orange ice-cream.
