The Museum is located in the historic steam locomotive depot of Vilanova i la Geltrú. It tries to show an innovative and active way the universe of trains and their extremely important role in the contemporary world.

Its installations propose a suggestive journey from the railway till the threshold of the XXI Century. In the peculiar buildings of the museum, from the final years of the XIX Century, it finds the most important collection of steam locomotives of Europe.

The spectacular roundabout houses vehicles from all eras and of rail elements. In the interior spaces, it showcases a great diversity of objects and services, and another room shows the awarded audiovisual, "Sube al Tren de la Historia" (Get on the Historic Train).


El Museo del Ferrocarril de Vilanova i la Geltrú forms part of the Sistema de Museos de la Ciencia y la Técnica de la Generalitat de Catalunya (System of Museums of Science and Technique of the Regional Government of Catalonia) as a collaborating entity.
