The Basilica of Santa María del Mar (also known as the Cathedral of the Sea) is one of the most spectacular monuments in Barcelona. It is a Gothic style church, situated in the Ribera district, and was constructed between 1329 and 1383. Yet, the first documents related to the temple date back to the year 998.
It is the work of architect Berenguer de Montagut and is the only great Catalan Gothic church concluded.
The interior beauty and it´s grandeur make this temple an ideal space for concerts. In this sense, the church has been used in various occasions for recitals of classical music, Oriental and also jazz.
