The center is placed in the ancient convent of Santa Mònica (XVIIIth century) remodelled by the architects Helio Piñón and Vicenç Viaplana. The CASM takes as a mission the study, interpretation, production and exhibition of contemporary art, with a special attention in the new production of art and the contextualisation in the international ambience.

The Center also proposes Arxiu_Dossiers: an unpublished project that unites the documentation of different generations of artists who live and/or work in Catalonia, for consultation and investigation: a tool for professionals (commissioners, critics, gallery owners...). The center´s menu of cultural activities are, projections, debates, concerts; and an educational proposal directed to students of secondary, high school, specific educations in art, and groups of adults.
